Ergonomics is the science of design of objects in relation to people. Designing equipment and other objects in relation to the human body is necessary in order to reduce strain, pain and injury. Proper use of ergonomics helps allow comfort in daily activities and interaction with design. Moreover, proper use of ergonomics improves efficiency.

For instance, the chair comedy we viewed this week showed how the ergonomics of a desk and chair could change the productivity and comfort of an individual.

Poor design can be costly as it can injure the individual, decrease the amount of work they can complete and much more. Ergonomics and design are key in all aspects of design from equipment to the workplace.

Gilbreth system of motion analysis is analysis techniques that can increase productivity. This theory looks at the positioning of materials or other items on the job to increase speed o the job. This theory was stemed from bricklaying. Moreover, this ideology is used by McDonallds in deskilling labor and increasing the efficiency and simplicity of jobs.

Who was Henry Ford influenced by the efficiency expert, Frederick Taylor? (2 paragraphs)

Frederick Taylor was brought into Ford to help improve the productivity of the plant. Jobs were broken down and employees were given smaller repetitive tasks. This was coined the deskilling of labor. Workers felt unhappy and alienated, as they were unable to see the total value of their job. There work was daunting and repetitive of small tasks done over and over again. Also, the expert was lost as they were not able to see the total picture.
